A possible pedestrian bridge at Hayton Greene Park in Palouse may be on its way. Whitman County Building Inspector Dan Gladwill gave a fourth quarter and year-end building report to county commissioners Tuesday. For the fourth quarter of 2018, he noted 54 permits were issued for a total valuation of $1.4 million. “Kind of a medium average,” Gladwill said, noting that numbers were not as big as recent years of large commercial projects. “We had a pretty good fourth quarter. The Whitman County Public Works department is still preparing specifications for a small, new office building at the county landfill off Carothers Road. A new owner and a new plan is underway for the site of a roof cave-in at the former Cohn Motor Company's red brick building in Tekoa. Eric Bretz last fall took over as owner from Keith Andersson, after Andersson signed a quit claim to the building on the corner of Main and Crosby Street. Whitman County commissioners Dec. 17 approved an amendment to the county’s six-year transportation improvement plan to add $151,000 from the Federal Highway Infrastructure program, part of a planned allocation that sent $18.1 million to counties around the state.
