    Hooper Many of the Hooper youth attended the Palouse Empire Fair with their cattle projects. Lane Hannas’ steer won the purple ribbon in his market weight class and competed in the FFA Market finals class, where he placed sixth overall. Lane was awarded the FFA Champion junior/senior division and the overall FFA Fitting and Showing Champion. Abby McGregor’s steer placed second in his weight class.     Hooper An impromptu potluck last Wednesday, Aug. 22 celebrated the end of harvest and extended a good luck to Calab Hannas as he heads off to college at Walla Walla Community College. Hooper’s volunteer firefighters have been busy this past week putting out several fires, along with other Whitman County volunteer fire departments. Residents appreciate all the time and effort.     Hooper Keith and Carla Danielson traveled to Faith Equestrian Center in Snohomish, July 21 and 22 to conduct a two day Keith Danielson Horsemanship/Obstacle Clinic.     Hooper Conly Merritt traveled to Ketchikan, Alaska, Dec. 21 where he was able to go on a “Tiger Cruise” aboard the submarine, USS Ohio. His son, Thane Merritt, serves as a master chief on the Ohio’s crew. Accompanying Conly was Thane’s son, Ben Merritt, of Bremerton. They boarded the USS Ohio Dec. 22 out of Ketchikan and arrived in Bangor, Wash., on Dec. 26. Conly said it was a “once in a lifetime” experience.
