Linda and Larry Fry were home this week from California and manned the Homestead Ministries booth at the Palouse Empire Fair, along with other valuable local volunteers. Family helped David Stueckel celebrate his birthday Saturday. Daughter Karen and son-in-law Larry Light arrived from their home in Portland Thursday and stayed until Sunday. Bruce Jones, who now lives in upstate New York, is visiting his mother Fran Jones and brother Bryan; helping Bryan in the peach orchard and many chores at the ranch. Kim and Cindy Pitts’s daughter and her family, Amanda, Erik and sons 14-year-old Rafe and 12-year-old Tate Carlson, attended a Mariner’s game in Seattle recently. Tate and Erik entered a “Pop Fly” contest. Both Dad and son had to catch two fly balls each in right field. Rafe could use a mitt but Erik had to catch his two fly balls with a pizza box .... with the pizza still in it....

News has been received of the passing of Brownie Jean Mortlock, 95, on July 25th at her home in Kettle Falls. She was the wife of the late pastor Earl Mortlock of the Country Bible Church 1965 - 1967. They had ten children, 26 grandchildren and 40 great grandchildren. A private family gathering will be held in her honor. She will be buried in Reardan, WA alongside her husband and mother. Art and Colene Sager flew their plane to Newburg, Oregon, Saturday to spend the day with Colene’s brother and his wife. April 19, six members of the Colfax High School ASB Leadership, along with Heidi Lowe, came out to the home of Tom and Doreen Riedner. DUSTY – Denise Kendall, of Tacoma, was finally able to spend a recent weekend with her twin sister, Doreen Riedner, so they could belatedly celebrate their shared February birthday. Ed and Joan Broeckel visited with their daughter’s family, Amber and Dominic and Leonel, from March 10-13, at their home in Boise. COLFAX — A display of oil paintings by Vicki Broeckel is on exhibit through the first week of January at Libey Gallery in the Whitman County Rural Library District branch here. A collection of 20 paintings of the Palouse and surrounding area are included along with a piece depicting the Dusty elevator in its prime. The work “Palouse Falls” has sold, as well as a scene of Alkali Flat. A portion of the sales goes to Friends of the Library....
