Dusty Selbu Lutheran Church was packed last Saturday with relatives, friends and neighbors showing their respect for local farmer Jim Emerson who died March 24. Emerson was born, raised and, except for his time spent serving his country in the U.S. Army, spent almost his entire life on the family farm. He and his wife Ann had moved to Hill Ray in Colfax. Dusty Local residents and many Krom family members attended the services for Margaret Krom Bolz at the Country Bible Church Saturday. Also attending were Martha Hibbard and Esther Gentry from Spokane. Margaret and Martha graduated from LaCrosse High School in the same class. Dusty Art and Colene Sager hosted the Washington Flying Farmers at the Whitman County Library meeting room Saturday. Randy Suess gave a powerpoint presentation on his travels to Jordan. He also told of his involvement of exporting wheat in many countries. With the farmer connection in the audience, both topics were well received. Two airplanes flew into the Port of Whitman Business Air Center, better known as the Colfax Airport. The transient parking that is all paved with tie downs was appreciated. Dusty Last week, Daniel and LaRena Draper almost ran over a dog on Highway 26. They picked him up to prevent him from being hit and tried to find his owner. He was a well-behaved hound type dog but due to allergies, they couldn’t keep him. Darrel Claassen took him on a show-and–hopefully–claim tour of Dusty but no one knew where he belonged. Dusty Last week on Tuesday, Kim Pitts went to Spokane to attend the Harlem Globetrotters vs. the All Stars exhibition at the arena. He took his daughter Amanda and grandsons Tate and Rafe with him. Karen Bafus had won the V.I.P. tickets in a radio contest but was unable to use them so gave them to Cindy Pitts. Kim, Amanda and boys were able to “meet and greet” some of the players. Dusty Blake and Carmen Heaton recently spent two weeks in Mexico City with their daughter’s family, Heather, Jaime, Valente, Jeronimo and Xico Reynoso. They enjoyed the company of many friends and family, watched grandsons Valente and Jeronimo show simmentals which placed with two grand champions, attended the Academic Fair of Xico and went to basketball games for all three grandsons. Dusty Damien Perron, who is living with his uncle Bryan Jones of Dusty and is a student at Colfax High School, spent the Christmas holidays visiting his parents, friends and the ski slopes in the Italian Alps. When he was asked about his trip, he reported the good news was that the airlines didn’t lose his luggage. Meggie Perron, granddaughter of Fran Jones, left for her home in Italy on Jan. 15 and will return on Feb. 4. Dusty Mark and Kathy Vogler had a great Christmas with their children, Cari and Henry Vogler and Anna, Chad and Iris Assareh home for the holiday. They all went sledding in the pasture the one day there was snow. Iris had her first toboggan ride. She was unimpressed, but a good sport. Dusty Country Bible Church’s Women’s Fellowship met for lunch last Wednesday at Events on Main in Colfax. It was their end of the year event. Eight women enjoyed the luncheon. Dusty Gary and Diane Monson hosted a Christmas luncheon for the Country Bible Church family Sunday afternoon. About thirty-five celebrants attended the gathering at the Monson home. Word has been received that longtime former Dusty resident, Harold “Curly” Broeckel, died Tuesday morning, Dec. 17, after an illness. Arrangements are pending. Dusty David and Phyllis Stueckle attended the Washington State Farm Bureau Convention in Yakima from Tuesday to Thursday last week. The week before, they spent three days at the Oregon coast at Depoe Bay, watching the tide roll away. Brian Jones is looking for his missing boat. It is a 10 foot Hughes Craft aluminum boat. Dusty Steve and Fran Maki have their own version of ObamaCare. Last week, Steve bought an ambulance that belonged to the town of Deary, Idaho. He had to remove the siren and the Deary sign on the side of the vehicle, but the flashing lights and police scanner still operate. It’ll make a great guide car when moving farm equipment on the highway, should quickly get them through any traffic jams at the Dusty intersection, can transport employees during harvest and, of course, is available for any personal emergency medical runs. Dusty Art and Colene Sager spent last week in Kona, Hawaii, with Art’s brother and wife, Floyd and Linda Sager from Boise. The Sagers flew their plane to Boise so that the two couples could travel together on the airline. Saturday, on their way home from Boise, Art and Colene stopped in Midvale, Idaho, and visited Colene’s 98 year old aunt and her cousin and wife who care for the aunt. Dusty Jon and Li Ochs recently spent a weekend in Victoria, B.C., where they visited their daughter, Allisha, and her three year old son Cole. While there, Li ran the 8 K leg of the Victoria Marathon and came in fourth in her age group, less than a minute off the group’s first place finisher. They also rode bikes and played on the beach. They spent a night in Seattle with daughter Sara and her husband Nathan before returning home. Dusty Christopher and Justus Heaton arrived Saturday night from Arizona to spend a few days with parents/grandparents, Blake and Carmen Heaton. While here, Justus shot his first deer.
