DUSTY — Homestead Ministries took a horse trailer of clothes and four bicycles to Spokane to “Off Broadway Family Ministries.” Donations have been given all summer long. Thursday afternoon, Gary and Diane Monson, Dale and Vicki Broeckel and Linda Hennigar attended the “Celebration of Life” for Marilyn Blevins at Hell’s Gate State Park in Lewiston. Marilyn was a former Dusty area resident for many years. She and her husband Ralph, raised three daughters here, Elisabeth, Rachel and Jessica. She passed away June 29. The Dusty B.B. Club met last Tuesday at the home of Diane Monson. Those attending included Monson, Dianne Appel, Fran Jones, Sandy Passmore, Terri Guenthner and Karen Broeckel. After much discussion, it was decided to suspend any further meetings until October, 2021, when the club will meet again to possibly decide the future of the club. There seems to have been some confusion concerning the Sunday worship time at the Country Bible Church. They are still on their summer hours with services starting at 10:30. Brian Jones has announced that due to an untimely frost, there are no apricots or peaches for sale at Warm Springs Ranch this year. A late frost around Mother’s Day killed off the crop. Temperatures hit 28 degrees. Jones said he can’t remember ever losing the whole crop before. The orchard has lost some of its yield in the past, but never to point it won’t open. Art and Colene Sager vacationed in Cody, Wyoming, from Monday through Saturday. One day was spent in Yellowstone Park, but the remainder of time was spent in Cody with their many attractions. The Buffalo Bill Center of the Northwest is a complex of five different museums: Pioneer History, Plains Indians, Firearms, Western Art, and Animals from the Area. Two days were spent in the museum. Andrew Nolan and his daughter Murphy, Spokane, and Hanna Monsen, Colbert, were guests at the Karen Broeckel home Saturday. A private graveside service was held at the Dusty Cemetery last week for a small group of mourners memorializing Loraine Scaggs who passed away March 29 at Whitman Health and Rehabilitation Center in Colfax. Art and Colene Sager flew their plane to Joseph, Ore., a week ago Thursday. It was a beautiful day and the Wallowa Mountains were majestic with the sun shining on the snow. Power outages this weekend were the result of high winds around noon on Sunday, leaving many homes without electricity until about 6 a.m. Monday. A large uprooted tree fell on the roof at Dale and Vicki Broeckel’s home causing extensive damage. The home at the Alkali Flat Arena sustained roof damage with loss of shingles. The wind shear, which lasted less than five minutes, also overturned harrow bed machinery parked in the lot. No other major damage was reported other than downed tree limbs. Kim and Cindy Pitts were in Cheney last week, Wednesday and Thursday, to attend the National Curling Championship competition on the EWU campus. Harm and Jan Smith spent several days in Orlando, Fla., recently. They attended the Josten’s Company Gala to see their daughter and son-in-law, Gina and Jason Morgan, honored for their success.
