David Stueckle flew to Pensacola, Fla., Nov. 22 to attend the promotion ceremony at Elgin Air Force Base for his grandson, Jonathan Stueckle, who was promoted to the rank of Lieutenant Colonel. In the afternoon, they flew to McMinnville, Ore., to attend a memorial service for a friend they had met through International Flying Farmers. Art and Colene Sager were delegates at the International Flying Farmer Convention in Wichita, Kan. Colene received an award for “Woman of the Year” based on her participation in both Washington-Oregon Region and the International Flying Farmers. Included with the convention was a day of touring the area. The group of 90 members traveled in two buses and went to a salt mine which was 650 feet underground. The salt is used for road salt. Dellene Broeckel Burdsall, Brentwood, Calif., spent 10 days helping her brother Ed Broeckel, Dusty, with his harvest operation. She drove bankout wagon. She returned to her California home on Aug. 9. Joan Broeckel took advantage of a short break in harvest, waiting for the spring wheat to fully ripen, to drive to Burlington, to visit her mother and sister. Rafe Carlson, Spokane, arrived last week at the farm of his grandparents, Kim and Cindy Pitts. He came to learn how to drive a wheat truck and help with harvest while his brother Tate was at basketball camp. Kim, Cindy and Rafe met Carrie Pitts, Yakima, in Pasco where they had lunch together. Helen Appel hosted the executive board of the Washington Wool Growers Auxiliary for a summer meeting. Randy Repp participated in an Iron Man Half Marathon June 30 at Coeur d'Alene as part of a relay team named "The Farmer and The Gal" with his sister-in-law Kim Hulquist (Kristin Repp's sister). Kim swam 1.2 miles and Randy rode bike 56 miles and ran 13.1 miles. They finished in seven hours and 25 minutes to complete a total of 70.3 miles. LaCrosse High School class of 1979 had a “meet and greet” session Friday night for their 40th reunion. They participated in the Farmers Fest parade, toured the school, looked at all the graduation pictures posted on the walls and sat in the chemistry room while reminising about their school days.
