The Rimrock Road project in Colton is complete, except for the sidewalk which is to come in the spring. “It’s in full use,” said Colton mayor Jerry Weber. “People were kind of driving up it before it was quite done. Mayor Todd Vanek and Public Works Supervisor Andy Rogers presented a proposal to the Colfax City Council Monday night to hire Taylor Engineering for five hours at $95 per hour to come up with a cost estimate for storm water control on Clay Street to be used in grant applications for the project. The project is in response to heavy flooding on Clay Street after a fall storm that caused runoff from the farm fields above the street. Pullman attorney Tim Esser filed a motion in Whitman County Superior Court asking the court to rule that the agreements between the county and Hawkins Company, LLC, of Boise, is void because Hawkins is not a registered contractor with the state. Esser, who represents the citizen group Organization to Void Illegal Conduct, contends in the motion that the county may not contract with an unregistered contractor, and names both the county and Hawkins in the motion. Colfax Arts Council is calling for regional artists to start thinking of designs for the 2013 H’Art of the Palouse banner contest, according to Bill Reynolds, CAC president. Results were recently announced from the recent Drive Sober or Get Pulled Over DUI enforcement campaign conducted from Nov. 21, 2012, through Jan. 1. Milton Michael “Mike” Cavender, 66, died from lung cancer on Thursday, Jan. 3, 2013, in his south hill home in Spokane. He was born June 7, 1946.
