Bright blue Colfax Bulldog flags appeared on Main Street light poles last week. The flags were donated by the Colfax School Foundation to be hung on Main Street, according to Steve Larkin, foundation board member. The flags are a foundation fund raiser and are for sale for $15 at the school district office, Top Notch and L&M Signs. Michael Largent was elected as the new chairman for the Whitman County Board of Commissioners Monday morning. Newly-elected Commissioner Art Swannack was elected vice-chairman. Charges against Michael A. Assenberg of Colfax were dismissed on Friday, Jan. 4, by Whitman County Superior Court. Going before Judge David Frazier on Friday, county Prosecutor Denis Tracy filed a motion to dismiss without prejudice the state’s case against Assenberg, citing a new interpretation of medical marijuana laws in the state. Assenberg’s trial was scheduled for later this month. Gar-Pal high school and elementary school principal Darcy Eliason has a new position which began Monday, Jan. 7. Eliason is now the school’s Curriculum Director, helping to bring the district in compliance with the coming Common Core Standards, the national set of standards which under state law will begin in Washington in September 2013. The McGregor Company of Colfax signed a lease with the Port of Whitman County on Jan. 3 to build a fertilizer storage and distribution complex at the Port of Wilma.
