  • Palouse city compost, dog permits expire

    All 2013 City of Palouse compost permits, regardless of issue date, are now expired. Residents of Palouse are required to get one of the permits to use the town compost facility for dumping leaves, grass and soft vegetation. The 2014 permits are now available at city hall for $15. Also, Palouse dog licenses for 2013 are expired. New dog licenses for 2014 are available at $5 for spayed and neutered dogs and $10 for others.     Kyra Mae Finch Johnson was welcomed to Whitman Hospital and Medical Center as the first baby of the new year. She is the first baby for Kelsie Johnson, 19, of Colfax. She was born on Jan. 1, 2014, at 7:05 p.m. She weighed in at six pounds, one ounce and was 19 inches long. Maternal grandparents are Carol Larson of Colfax and Nick Johnson of St. John.     The results are in from the recent Drive Sober or Get Pulled Over DUI enforcement campaign conducted from Nov. 27 through Jan. 1. In Spokane, Whitman, Pend Oreille and Ferry counties, 228 motorists were stopped and arrested for driving under the influence of alcohol or drugs (DUI), and statewide, law enforcement officers arrested 2,723 drivers for DUI.
