    Chandler Pfaff, daughter of David and April Pfaff of Farmington, has been awarded a $3,000 presidential scholarship at Eastern Washington University. They are awarded to high school seniors with a 3.8 or higher grade average, a 1250 or higher SAT score or 28 or higher ACT score.   • Four properties sold after tax foreclosures

    Sale of four properties at the end of the year closed out the county’s tax foreclosure process for 2013. The county took possession of the properties after concluding the foreclosure procedure on properties where taxes had been unpaid for the past three years. This year’s foreclosures were for properties with tax and interest debts due back to 2010. The process this year began with 150 properties, according to Lori Nails of the treasurer’s office. Smith & Boardman have just received direct from the factory in the east another 30,000 pound carload of the famous Baker Perfect barbed wire. Person & Crow have reopened and are again selling goods.     Did you know that January is national Blood Donor Month? Blood products are used in a variety of situations and can be planned (major surgery or cancer) or unexpected (newborn or trauma). The blood used in an emergency is already on the shelves before the event occurs. The blood type most often requested by hospitals is Type O.     Dave and Adele Moneymaker of Uniontown celebrated their 50th wedding anniversary Dec. 28 with a family gathering at Moscow’s University Inn. Dave Moneymaker and Adele Mustard were married Jan. 4, 1964, at St. Gall’s Catholic Church in Colton. Dave grew up in Uniontown where he attended elementary school.     Endicott Endicott Community Club met Jan. 14 at the Endicott Food Center. Members present were Sue Bafus, Gail Bilow, Leslie Starriat, Ann Stoner, Myrna Morasch, Cinda Tribble and Anne Lowe. Endicott School Principal Mike Olson gave an update on the tree project at the school. An arborist from Spokane came down to assess the removal and replacement of trees on school property.     Dusty Damien Perron, who is living with his uncle Bryan Jones of Dusty and is a student at Colfax High School, spent the Christmas holidays visiting his parents, friends and the ski slopes in the Italian Alps. When he was asked about his trip, he reported the good news was that the airlines didn’t lose his luggage.   • February ballot mailout exceeds 19,000

    The auditor’s elections office will mail out more than 19,000 ballots Monday for the Feb. 11 election. Elections Supervisor Debbie Hooper said ballots will go to all voters in the county because the county’s levy lid measure is on the ballot. The county seeks a 22 cent increase in the property levy base to $1.60 per $1,000 assessed valuation beginning in 2015. The ballot includes 16 measures with all of them involved in funding requests.     The Whitman County Prosecutor’s office Jan. 16 in a lengthy news release reported criminal charges will not be filed in relation to the David Warner assault case last March on the WSU campus. The prosecutor’s office said they were issuing the public statement because of the significance of the case to Dr. Warner and to the general community.
