According to reports, fuel was found leaking from a tank over 85 years old in April of 2022, causing the Washington State Department of Ecology to find approximately 450 gallons diesel spilled. PULLMAN — The Whitman County Coroner’s Office confirmed the cause and manner of death of a man found in a fatal structure fire on Dec. 31. Pillars confirmed Steven Paul Sargent, 60, of Pullman, died from asphyxia due to inhalation of smoke and the manner of death accidental. COLFAX — The Port of Whitman County received a $2.49 million grant for high speed broadband in rural areas. The Port was awarded $2.49 million in funds from the Washington State Department of Commerce’s Community Economic Revitalization Board (CERB) for the rural broadband project.
