COLFAX – The Whitman County Public Health said a death of an adult due to flu complications in the “first week of January.” “The adult tested positive for influenza A and negative for COVID-19,” according to the Public Health Department. LaCROSSE – The Washington State School Directors' Association presented awards for School Board of Distinction for 2021 to five LaCrosse School District board members. Board members Cat Wigen, Mike Stubbs, Terry Miller, Harmon Smith, and Tami Schwartz received certificates at the annual WSSFDA conference. COLFAX – Nine school districts are seeking levy approvals from voters on Feb. 8. A levy is a property tax. It costs the landowner a set amount for every $1,000 of assessed property value. If the amount is $2 for every $100,000 the property is worth, the approved levy would cost the landowner $200 per year. Levies fund programs not covered by state funding. COLFAX – Packaged methamphetamine and stolen items were found inside a vehicle stopped by Whitman County sheriff’s deputies on Jan. 25. Deputies stopped the vehicle for a licensing violation near Red Wolf Bridge on State Highway 128 in southern Whitman County. The vehicle matched a description of one involved in a Uniontown burglary attempt a week earlier, according to Sheriff Brett Myers. MALDEN – The Ford Motor Co. donated $25,000 to the Innovia Foundation to be used in the rebuilding of Malden and Pine City. The Babb Road wildfire devastated the communities Sept. 7, 2020. SPANGLE — Tekoa-Rosalia leads the four-girl Whitman County contingent into the North Subregional wrestling tournament on Saturday at Liberty (Spangle) High School. The Timberwolves have senior Jesse Casey entered at 135 pounds and freshman Alexis Taylor competing at 145.
