Colfax School PTO will hoist a scholastic book fair at JES the week of Feb. 13-17. Anthenaeum The Feb. 3 meeting was at Jane Aune’s home and Mary Ann Wigen presided. Continuing the year’s theme “Notable Washington Women,” Ruth Enos presented a program about Tug Boat Annie. A young Norwegian, she and her husband immigrated to the U.S. and eventually moved to Tacoma. She started a row boat business in busy Tacoma harbor. Since October, Laura Jones has been the librarian for the Endicott branch of the Whitman County Library, but she has not done it alone. Her best volunteers are family members. Friends and family of Mabel Wheeler gathered for a pair of parties last weekend to mark the farm girl’s 101st birthday. Ms. Wheeler was born Jan. 29, 1911. She celebrated with a rip-roaring party Saturday at the Cederberg Barn north of Colfax and Sunday with her friends and neighbors at the Courtyard. More than 60 guests attended Mabel’s Cederberg party, which included fiddle playing and the first annual Mabel Wheeler pool tournament which drew 22 contestants. Beginning at the first of the year, Uniontown Deli owner Robin Weatherly now serves dinner and opens two hours earlier, at 7 a.m. The dinner options are focused to one dish most nights, but soon will expand. Mondays are meat loaf, Tuesdays tacos, Wednesday and Thursday appetizers and pizza and Fridays are order-off-the-menu. Friday will soon be a fish fry night.
