The current campaign for president is setting the tone for future political discourse. This campaign season has seen unprecedented personal attacks, dirty tricks and vulgar language. Truth and civility are notably absent. No candidate seems “presidential,” and both parties are guilty of the abuses. All this does not bode well for the future. Garfield/Palouse will send a rooter bus this Saturday, Feb. 27, to Mt. Spokane High School for the Boys BB regional game being played at 8 p.m. The bus is open to all students seventh through 12th grade, residents as well as students sixth grade and younger with an adult. The bus will leave the Palouse School at 5:15 p.m. and from the Garfield Post Office at 5:30 p.m. There is no cost to ride the bus. Public meetings seeking input for a potential future project at Boyer Park and Marina have concluded, and the Port is moving forward with a pre-application for a dock system planning grant, reported Port Executive Director Joe Poiré. Whitman County Public Works Director Mark Storey has made the call to buy a modular bridge for use in the county. The estimated $50,000 item, out for bids now, calls for a two-piece steel structure with a wood-plank driving surface. Jerry Walker, 74, Endicott area farmer, was sentenced to 66 months Friday afternoon on a conviction for three counts of child molestation. In pronouncing the sentence, Judge David Frazier denied a request by the defense for a sexual offender alternative sentence. Walker Jan. 8 pleaded guilty to two charges of child molestation in the second degree and one charge of child molestation in the third degree. A statewide 911 outage two years ago cost CenturyLink $2.85 million dollars Monday. The Washington Utilities and Transportation Commission approved a settlement between the company and the commission following an investigation into the outage that interrupted emergency services for six hours from April 9-10, 2014, according to a news release from the commission.
