    The full sports merger for Waitsburg and Dayton teams is now back on track after Waitsburg school board members voted Monday to reverse the decision they made to back out of the merger Feb. 14. Waitsburg made the unanimous vote, and Dayton school board members Feb. 21 voted unanimously to ask them to reconsider, according to a report in the March 1 Dayton Chronicle.     The search for a new police officer in Palouse continues with a candidate ride-along done last week and a potential part-time hire from Colfax to come in for Terry Snead, the reserve officer for the Palouse Police Department, who has served since November while the city searches for an officer to replace retiree Joe Merry.     Whitman County Public Works department called for quotes last week from its vendor roster for two steel bridge supply items, replenishing for summer work on short-span bridge repairs. Arrow Construction of Spokane Valley will supply galvanized steel backwall decking which makes up the abutment of a bridge — and steel “H” pile used for driving steel down into rock.     The City of Palouse authorized Apollo Solutions of Kennewick Feb. 27 to apply for funding for a project to add another row of panels at its solar farm built in 2016. Representatives from Apollo will now apply for a $75,000 grant from the Washington Department of Enterprise Services for the estimated $150,000 project, which would add 25 kilowatts per given second of power generating capacity for Palouse.     Charles (Charlie) Hatley, the Coeur d’Alene police officer who was wounded in an exchange of gunfire March 6, was raised in Colfax. He is the son of Gary Hatley and Sheri Hatley and the grandson of Clyde and Sherry Hatley. His uncle, Craig Hatley of Colfax, visited Charles at the hospital Wednesday where the officer is recovering. Hatley had been employed with the sheriff’s jail staff at Coeur d’Alene before joining the Coeur d’ Alene police department.     Pete Martin was honored Thursday on his retirement after 37 years of service as Whitman County Coroner. Martin officially ended his service as coroner at midnight Feb. 28, the last day of the month. Any early morning calls to report an unattended death would have gone to Annie Pillers, chief deputy coroner who was the lone applicant for appointment to replace Martin.     Port of Whitman commissioners went over capital improvement projects for the Colfax Airport Thursday. The five-year plan was laid out in a letter from the FAA which provides the majority of the funding for the projects.     Representatives from the Pullman League of Women Voters presented the results of a poverty study to Whitman County commissioners Monday. Mary Collins and Karen Kiessling told of how they undertook the project four years ago after seeing a USA Today newspaper article which reported that Whitman County was the poorest county in Washington. “I didn’t believe it,” said Collins.
