Raymond M. Packard Raymond M. Packard, 81, Harvard, died March 1, 2011, at his home from an apparent heart attack. He has been cremated and a service will not be conducted in accordance with his request. Born Aug. 27, 1929, at Potlatch, to Fred and Rose Martin Packard, he attended Potlatch schools and graduated from Potlatch High School in 1948. Empire begins season with new lights, carpet Tekoa’s Empire Theatre sparkled for its season opener Saturday night with the results of the latest restoration efforts. Two vintage replica lighting fixtures have been installed in the theatre lobby. The chrome tube lights conform with the art deco decor of the theater. The other addition is a new red, diamond pattern rug for the lobby and aisles. Karl Scheuerman, deputy chief of intelligence for the 62nd operations group at Joint Base Lewis-McChord in Tacoma, has been named the 2010 Outstanding Active Duty Intelligence Officer of the Year for the USAF Air Mobility Command. Scheuerman is a 2005 graduate of the US Air Force Academy and has served tours of duty in Afghanistan and Turkey. He graduated from St. John/Endicott High School in 2000. More than 110 books were ordered at Palouse Library with the help of proceeds from the Thanksgiving Turkey Leg fun run that raised more than $2,000 for the purchase. Approximately 80 of the books have arrived to date. A new display of artwork will be exhibited March 15 until April 19 at the library. As Whitman County prepares to flip the switch on its new accounting software, officials realized they did not have the rights to use it on enough computers. Chris Nelson, director of the county’s information technology department, told commissioners Monday the original purchase agreement with Michigan-based New World did not come with enough software licenses to install on the necessary amount of computers. Colton Library’s third Thursday program March 17 will be a wii party featuring the game “Just Dance”. This year a record $1,230 in food was collected throughout the county in the Whitman County Library’s food for fines campaign in February. The total amount of fines forgiven was less than $800. Library director Kristie Kirkpatrick said customers participated in all 14 branches of the library. The library once again partnered with local food pantries for the 11th annual Food for Fines drive in February.
