Bill Evans, Colfax tree trimmer, passed away suddenly in Colfax on Saturday, March 4, 2023, after suffering cardiac arrest. He was 75. Bill was born January 26, 1948, in Missoula, Montana, and grew up in that area. He spent his early life working in the Missoula vicinity where he learned the art of tree trimming from his father. Bill and three brothers all worked alongside their dad working their trade all over Western Montana. Long time Colfax resident, Lars Sjostrand, passed away peacefully on March 8th, 2023. He was born in Sweden on July 31, 1943, to parents Anna and Goran Sjostrand. Seventeen members of his family were sponsored by the Mormon church to move to the United States when Lars was 5 years old. They settled near Salt Lake City, Utah. Jean Rowland Magrath passed away on January 24, 2023 at Deaconess Hospital in Spokane. He was 90. Jean was born In New Bedford, Massachusetts on May 19, 1932, a direct descendant of Governor William F. Bradford of the Massachusetts Bay Colony on his mother’s side. COLFAX — The Colfax Kiwanis club is doing a clothing drive for Colfax School District throughout the month. Coordinator Sara Golden, explained that the clothing drive is in case accidents happen, “everything from mud puddles, painting and art, food spills, you name it,” she said. PULLMAN – Pullman residents Ron and Heather Morgan are having their 19th annual Benefit Bowling Tournament for the Whitman County Humane Society (WCHS) and Northwest Cancer Foundation of Hope, Saturday, March 25, at Zeppos in Pullman.
