    All branches of the Whitman County Library system will close for a computer system upgrade Thursday and Friday. Library materials will be due during the closure. All book drops will be available for returning items. The library catalog called Horizon will be unavailable during the two-day upgrade so items cannot be requested or renewed from the library’s collection of 75,000 items.     Brandi L. Campbell, daughter of Charles D. Campbell of Colfax, participated in the U.S. Navy relief mission to Haiti after the Caribbean country was hit by the Jan. 12 earthquake. Campbell serves aboard the USS Bataan as a third class petty officer. The Bataan arrived in the Port-au-Prince area Jan. 19 and began unloading supplies, including beach clearing equipment, bulldozers and rubble removers.   • Death ruled accidental overdose

    County Coroner Peter Martin Monday issued an investigation finding that Jessiha J. Lancaster, 29, Rosalia, died March 17 from respiratory failure caused by the overdose of prescription drugs. The manner of death was determined to be accidental. A final determination will be pending until the coroner receives results of the toxicology report.     Just two towns put forth applications for a share of Whitman County’s .09 economic development dollars. Lamont and Oakesdale were the lone applicants for a share of the $100,000 made available by county commissioners. As per state requirements, the funds are to be awarded to projects that create jobs and bring new business to area towns.
