Rolling on a 4-0 record, Colfax Bulldogs were set back a day Tuesday when wet conditions delayed their home doubleheader against Kettle Falls to Wednesday afternoon. Last Wednesday against Northwest Christian, the Bulldogs topped the Crusaders 9-2 in the opener and edged them 7-4 in the closer. "We played pretty well in both games, and we had some good situational hitting," coach Mike Parrish said. Former Colton basketball star Jenna Moser is going to the Final Four. A sophomore at the University of Washington, the 5'6” guard joined the Huskies off of the practice squad late in the season after a spate of injuries reduced the roster. The women’s team is now in Indianapolis for an NCAA national semifinal game vs. Syracuse Sunday. In the NCAA tournament, Moser played in wins over Maryland and Stanford. Colfax junior Chance Weitze of Colfax carded a one-over-par 36 to lead a field of 37 golfers from seven teams at the St. John course last Thursday. Colfax coach Steve Jones noted Weitze's score was a big accomplishment because the golfers were playing in winds of up to 25 mph and some rain. Weitze hit on the par three second hole using a four iron on a shot which normally requires an eight iron. Kylie Gronning of Colfax also claimed medalist honors with a 51 on the girls' side. Senior Scout Cai cleared 12 feet in the pole vault at the Ray Cross Invitational track meet at Ephrata to lead the Colfax run of 46 points to placefifth overall in the giant mid-state meet. The 12'0'' in the vault was good for a one-foot edge over the number-two entrant, Heather Carbon of Moses Lake. The 12 also set a record for the Ray Cross meet which had 37 teams this year, and it set a CHS record. Cai's previous best was 11'6''. Colfax senior Sarah Appel, a former starting catcher, began the season in the pitcher’s circle for the Bulldog softball team. The Colfax Bulldog softball team hosted Kettle Falls Wednesday after posting a 1-3 record in their first NE rounds. The Bulldogs dropped Reardan 12-2 in their opener March 18 and then sustained two defeats at Northwest Christian March 23. Colfax's March Madness shopping campaign is concluding this week, with the last prizes expected to be awarded tomorrow. “This is the last week,” said Valoree Gregory, Colfax's unified executive director. “It's been good. Four formal charges were filed against Michael Novak, 47, Colfax, March 23 in Whitman County Superior Court by Prosecutor Denis Tracy. Novak was booked into jail early Saturday morning after deputies responded to a report last Friday of possible assault and voyeurism at Novak’s residence on Klaus Road in the Wilcox area. Brian T. Allery, 49, Moscow, was arrested Saturday on a charge of eluding a police vehicle after a high speed chase across Whitman County and into Latah County. Deputies during the chase determined Allery was also wanted on a felony warrant in Whitman County, according to the report by Sheriff’s Sgt. Keith Cooper. Nine Whitman County bridges were rated as structurally deficient in a Washington State Department of Transportation report released in January.
