    The Year of the Pulse is heating up, winter wheat is starting to spring up across the Palouse and preparations are underway for the 2016 Lentil Festival season. Applications went live Tuesday for the 28th annual Lentil Festival. Those applications include spots for vendors and recipe entrants for the Legendary Lentil Cook-off sponsored by the USA Dry Pea & Lentil Council.   • Lice at Endicott school contained

    The Endicott school recently faced a small outbreak of lice, causing the school to send infected students home and send letters to families in the district informing them of the outbreak. Principal Bruce Porubek said the outbreak was small, and though not something that happens every year, not uncommon. Porubek said if lice was identified in any student, that student was sent home and stayed home until the lice cleared up. “They stayed home, and we checked them again when they came back just to make sure,” he said.   • Konnor Stirling passes after battle with cancer

    Konnor Stirling, 14-year-old Colfax student, died Tuesday after a nearly two-year battle with leukemia. The son of Tom and Janel Stirling, he was being treated at Providence Sacred Heart in Spokane. Sources close to the family said the family has requested privacy at this time and has asked to be able to take the time as a family to grieve.   • Snake River half marathon will close Wawawai Road

    Palouse-area runners are gearing up for the Snake River Canyon Half Marathon Saturday at Wawawai. Some motorists could face travel delays or road closures in the area of the half marathon route. The river road from the Wawawai Park to Steptoe Canyon Road is slated to be closed from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m. while runners complete the 13.1-mile course. The run, put on by the Palouse Road Runners, is scheduled for a 10 a.m. start time.     Colfax Mayor Todd Vanek has scheduled a State of the City address for Friday, March 25, at Events on Main.     Scott Kruse, EMT coordinator, stands next to the new ambulance which is now in service at Colfax. The ambulance was installed by Horton Emergency Vehicles on a Ford F-550 chassis. A new ambulance is now in operation out of the Colfax Fire Station. The ambulance was purchased new from a Horton dealership in Salt Lake City with the price at approximately $200,000.
