Judi Dunn-Gray from Whitman County Recycling will share her expertise on composting April 18 at 7 p.m. in the Colfax Library. The presentation will be part of Community Cleanup Week April 16-21, an event sponsored by the City of Colfax, Chamber of Commerce and a number of Colfax organizations. The new Palouse Food Bank will have its third distribution Wednesday, April 25 from 1 p.m. to 6 p.m. in the Palouse Community Center. Organizers report they are serving more people each month, while there has been much food leftover. In March, the truck from Second Harvest in Spokane brought chicken, cabbage, beans, apples, pancake mix, fresh greens and assorted canned goods. A local farm donated fresh eggs. Annual conference of the Washington Farm Forestry Association will be May 3-5, 2012, at the Mirabeau Park Hotel in the Spokane Valley. It was published in 1912 and has been called “the first draft of history” on this tragic event. This book was donated to the Friends of the Library and is now for sale at etsy.com for $399.99. Egg hunters at the Rosalia City Park launched at full speed Saturday morning. Plastic egges were distributed all over the park. Water damage to a business building in Garfield has been repaired and an agreement for a potential tenant has been negotiated. After a water burst in January in the building, the former long time home of Cher’s Restaurant, the town of Garfield spent $40,000 in insurance proceeds in repairs. The grandparents of the late Lawrence Hickman came to the Onecho area in 1972 from Illinois via San Francisco and Roseburg, Ore. William Franklin Hickman and wife Martha moved 600 head of sheep across Oregon and the Snake River and brought them to what became the Hickman ranch on Jenkins Road just southeast of Onecho. Number of seats on the Whitman County’s planning commission could be cut because not enough residents have volunteered to serve on the panel. County commissioners are considering reducing the panel from a nine-member board to seven members. The commission, which sets county policy on land use matters, currently has two vacancies plus a seat held by Pete Hertz of Palouse that is not occupied while Hertz deals with illness.
