    In a doubleheader to decide the Southeast 1B league baseball champions, Colton and Pomeroy met April 29 and Pomeroy took it, winning both, 5-3 and 9-2. Playing at the Wildcats' field, senior pitcher and all-around Colton force Brady Chadwick collided with Pomeroy catcher Cade Gingerich in the fifth inning of game one resulting in Chadwick's ejection.     Dawson Strobel and Augie Allenbach each hit 75s Tuesday at Stoneridge to lead an NE field in team competition. McKenna Davis hit an 85 to win the girls side of the action. She finished one stroke ahead of Tessa Jantz of Lind/Ritzville/Sprague. Michaela Tee hit 95 for the Timberwolves. Colfax boys took another team win with 422 points, a 19-stroke edge over number-two Northwest Christian. Asotin finish in third place at 453. Colfax’s Caleb Brown and Tekoa/Rosalia’s Garrett Knaught both cleared 6-0 with Brown taking the event because he did it on his first attempt.     Oakesdale's Nighthawk girls bumped Colfax by 17 points last Thursday to win a 13-team NE track meet hosted by St. George's on the track at Mead. Oakesdale girls finished with 122 points, and Colfax finished with 105. St. George's finished in a distant third with 71.5 points.   • Garfield restaurant could go up for bid

    A Garfield resident interested in buying the town-owned restaurant space will decide how to proceed after clarification on how to go about it. At the April 12 town council meeting, Jeff Rathbun, who works at the Foundry in Pullman, told the council he was ready to buy the Garfield space – which housed the former Smokin' Papa's.     As the only applicant for this year’s county .09 funds, the Whitman County Library was awarded the entire sum of $100,000 for projects at The Center. “I’m so excited,” said Kristie Kirkpatrick, library director. “This will be huge.” Kirkpatrick said the funds will help to push The Center toward completion.     A group of Tekoa and Plummer, Idaho, area farmers have signed an expression of interest to work out a deal to turn a six-mile stretch of former railroad bed into a link between the John Wayne Pioneer Trail and the Trail of the Coeur d’Alenes.     The City of Tekoa hired a structural engineer who came to evaluate the Anderson building April 18, in the aftermath of the roof collapse and pending cleanup. Justin Cook of DCI Engineers in Spokane directed the city to put a fence on the south side of the building. A city crew lined out a plastic-webbed barrier.     Twenty-five years ago Los Angeles exploded in riots. Most of the violence was in the south-central part of the city, a predominantly black, low income area.
