Area residents can again help Pullman High School Boosters raise funds by test-driving a new Ford and Mercury vehicle from 8:30 to 5 May 15. Test drives of 7 to 10 minutes will start and end in the PHS parking lot. Test drivers must be 18 or older and have a valid driver’s license. For every person taking a drive during the session Ford and Jess Ford of Pullman will donate $20 to Pullman High School Boosters. A 10th annual “Kids Fish-in” has been scheduled for Gilchrist Pond along Union Flat Creek South of Colfax for June 12. Fishing sessions will be open to youngsters between five years and 14. Fishing is done in timed sessions from 9 to 1:30 p.m. Each session lasts 30 minutes. Registration fee will be $5 and include a Zebco rod and reel which will be provided at the scene. The Pro-Moto Motorcycle Rodeo, which made its debut last year at the Palouse Empire Fairground, will be back again this year for three days over the Fourth of July weekend. Rodeo events will be July 4. “We were very well received last year and look forward to another successful weekend. Sunday’s 50-year anniversary observance of the 1960 Whitworth baseball team that won the NAIA championship brought together two Pirate ball players from Colfax. Don Cox, retired Colfax superintendent and legislator, played second base on the Pirates’ 1960 championship team. He met up with Nathan Johnson, a Whitworth junior who plays infield and pitches for the Pirates. Johnson is the son of Mark and Robyn Johnson of Colfax. Mellor makes leap for first Colfax senior Sam Mellor leaps for first base Friday in the first game of a doubleheader with Liberty while Jacob Schmauch of the Lancers attempts to cover the bag. Naturally negative? I guess people are just naturally negative. I don’t understand the attitude toward windmills by most people. They use no fuel. Fields can still be planted and harvested. I’ve seen pictures of wheat fields before and after windmills were in place. I don’t know where the windmills did any damage. Windmills could take the place of dams and restore the Salmon and Steelhead runs, boosting tourist trade. Thousands of fish would bring in thousands of dollars. Having truly free flowing rivers would give us the same appeal as Alask...
