    Dan Boone of Pullman announced Monday he will seek a third term as the District 2 commissioner for the Port of Whitman County. Boone, who farms his family’s ground south of Pullman, said he wants to continue ongoing efforts he has been a part of as a director of the county’s industrial development agency. “I think we’ve got a lot of things going right now,” he said.     The Palouse police department is in the process of purchasing a used patrol vehicle after the town council May 10 voted to let Chief Jerry Neumann bid for a vehicle. Neumann is looking to replace one of the department’s four vehicles. Neumann told the Gazette he hopes to buy a used Dodge Charger and then apply the appropriate law enforcement markings.     Whitman County commissioners voted Monday to sign on to a letter asking the state to set aside the right-of-way of the defunct railroad link between Colfax and Pullman for a possible trail.     Four months into 2011, Whitman County’s operating budget has dropped another $209,000 into the red. Gary Petrovich, the county’s administrative coordinator, told county officials Monday the bleak outlook on the 2011 budget is getting bleaker. “There are some potentially difficult things we’ll need to do in the future,” said Petrovich.     The day care in Palouse may soon no longer be operated by the school district; instead, it will be transformed into a non-profit day care run by an independent board. The Palouse school board voted to turn the management of the day care over to the parent task force that will create the non-profit at its Tuesday board meeting.
