    The Oakesdale class of 2012 has named Danielle Jones and Kaela Dewan as valedictorians of the senior class. Danielle is the daughter of David and Melody Jones, and Kaela is the daughter of George and Angy Dewan. Jones plans to attend Spokane Community College to study accounting. Dewan will attend Eastern Washington University to study Occupational Therapy. Jeffrey DeGon was named salutatorian of the senior class. Jeffrey is the son of Steve and Mary DeGon.     Two local girls have qualified to compete in the National Junior High Rodeo in Gallup, N.M., June 19-30. This will be the eighth annual junior high finals.     Whitman County Parks has hired R Designs of Moscow to create layouts for 13 interpretive Wayfinding signs for the Palouse Scenic Byway. The kiosk-like signs will be posted at 13 locations along the route, highlighting local sights to see and half-day trips from each place.   • Flags, ceremony honor veterans at Colfax

    A posting of veterans memorial flags and a ceremony conducted by the Colfax FFA chapter keyed the Memorial Day observance in Colfax Monday morning. The chapter this year posted 239 flags at the cemetery. The flags are donated by veteran’s families, and each flag is mounted with the respective veteran’s name and service branch.
