The Budding Rose Art Gallery & Clayworks, a non-profit art gallery will have their 11th annual student art show featuring works by Rosalia High School students during Battle Days. It will include a 3D display of specially designed masks. The exhibit will be Saturday, June 5, 10 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. and Sunday, June 6, from 1 to 5 p.m. Visitors to the gallery can also take a look at their own Giant Palouse Worm and take home an ash sample from Mt St Helens as a souvenir. LaCrosse The LaCrosse All-Purpose 4H Club spent Memorial Day helping Gayle Startin with many projects at the city farm. More than 30 members, parents and friends worked from 9:30 a.m. to 7 p.m. Trucks, tractors, shovels and wheel barrows were busy tearing down old fence, building new fence, removing buildings, trimming trees, cleaning up debris around public buildings and much more. June 18 cook-off deadline set Sponsored by the Palouse Chamber of Commerce to promote the use of barley, the Barley Cook-Off offers a of $250 in prize money provided by Palouse Grain Growers Inc., which pearls barley grown locally by co-op members. Stanley and Lois Horner celebrated their 73rd wedding anniversary June 2 at Harbor Crest Retirement Center in Spokane where they have resided since 2006. They were married in Tekoa and lived in Tekoa where Stan was employed with the Union Pacific Railroad. They moved to Bayview, Idaho, in 1965. Stan retired in November 1976, to conclude a 37-year career with the railroad. They have two children, Robert and Lucy Horner of Palm Bay, Fla., and Vicki and Tim St. John, Tekoa. Members of the Garfield-Palouse Envirothon which placed second at the Cispus Learning Center in Randle included from the left, Blake Slocum, Garret Pfaff, Tiona Shea, JB Lange and Chad Redman with advisor Buddy Carter. Garfield-Palouse scored 545 points behind the 567 scored by Stanwood. A young Tekoa /Oakesdale/ Rosalia team battled for two rounds Friday before bowing out of the state 2B softball show in Yakima. The Nighthawks battled NE contender Davenport for the distance in their opening game before the Gorillas pegged a 14-10 win. They then went up against LaConner and lost 3-4 in the elimination round. Colfax’s 4x100 meter girls relay team was the lone title brought back to Whitman County from last weekend’s 2B state track championships held at EWU’s Woodward Field. The team of Amelie Bruya, EB Hatley, Hannah Harazin and Kayla Johnson clocked a 51.53 in the 4x100 final to come in a half second ahead of second place La Salle. A walkoff win by DeSales in the bottom of the seventh inning shut down another Colfax bid for a state softball trophy in the 2B playoffs at Yakima Saturday. The Bulldogs finished 2-2 in the tournament. They advanced to the semi-final round with two wins Friday and then ran into Pe Ell in the semi-final game. The coast club canned Colfax 12-2 and went on to defeat Adna 1-0 in a thrilling championship game. Colfax then dropped into the consolation round and ran into DeSales. Angela Senter has attained the 1000 hour award offered by the American Paint Horse Association for their Ride America Program. She has ridden1000 hours on her 12-year-old sorrel gelding, a Foxy Imprint. The majority of the time was on rural roads around her family’s property on the Clear Creek Road. A seven-hour boater education course will be offered free by Whitman County Sheriff’s office June 9,10. Sessions will be from 6 to 9:30 p.m. upstairs at the Public Service Building.
