The Port of Whitman County received the Washington Public Ports Association Creative Partnership Award for 2017 on May 19. The Port of Whitman County approved a $400 expenditure two weeks ago to support the annual Colfax Fly-In and Pancake breakfast at the Colfax Airport. “Somebody's got to pay for the pancake batter,” commented Joe Poiré, Port executive director. With Tekoa's annual Slippery Gulch Days parade set for Saturday, June 17, city officials are looking for a solution to the sight of a caved-in red brick building on Crosby Street. The National Council for Home Safety and Security two weeks ago released its list of the safest cities in Washington, and Pullman made it in the top five. The rankings were based off of recent FBI Uniform Crime Report data. Cities or towns with populations of less than 5,000 were not included. Ranking first was Duvall with a population of 7,882, two violent crimes and 49 property crimes last year. Garfield Clerk/Treasurer and Farmington Treasurer Cody Lord will leave both positions June 12 to move to Tampa, Fla., for a new job. Lord will join Avatar Nutrition as creative director for the company owned by his sister-in-law. Whitman County commissioners Monday approved a notice of the first budget amendment for 2017 and also approved the calendar for the 2018 budget. The first budget amendment will be heard by the commissioners in their chambers at the courthouse on Monday, June 19, at 10:30 a.m. The commissioners Monday stated the details of the amendment are still being worked out. COAST Transportation will now provide van service from the Endicott Food Center to the meal site at the LaCrosse Café. The senior meal in LaCrosse is served on the first and third Tuesdays.
