  • Tekoa forms crime watch committee

    Following February arrests for marijuana and theft and a burglary in April, the City of Tekoa has formed a new committee of three city council members to consider options to fight crime. Mayor John Jaeger appointed the group June 6, naming council representatives Ted Blazsak, Alyssa Heagy and John Giudice. “It's an effort on the city's part to maybe be in assistance to the county,” said Jaeger. “To open up our eyes and ears a little more than usual.” Blaszak noted that some items to consider are a neighborhood watch, nuisance house laws, m...

    The field was diminished as a drizzly sky hung over the Slippery Gulch Days egg toss last Saturday. A perennial name, nonetheless, took to the winner's circle. Gabe Smith and partner Brandon Stroebel, both of Tekoa, won the annual event, which stretches most of the downtown length of Crosby Street.   • Rosalia town pump fixed

    Rosalia is again operating with two water pumps after one pump was repaired and re-installed. One of the town's two water pumps went out earlier in June, and it had to be taken off site to be repaired. It was replaced Friday, June 17. While the pump was down, residents were asked to conserve water because only one pump was operational. The first of 12 projects started Monday on Garfield-Farmington Road, where a country crew will seal-coat six miles of road north from Highway 27 to near Ryde Road.     LaCrosse and St. John/Endicott school officials have worked out a plan for more combined teams in the 2016-2017 sports year. The plan has been worked out to deal with the reduction in the number of student athletes in LaCrosse, Washtucna and Kahlotus, which have participated in the LWK combo for several years.     The Palouse solar panel project took another step last week when the city council authorized Mayor Michael Echanove to apply for financing of up to $140,000. At the council meeting June 14, Clerk/Treasurer Mike Bagott reported he has researched options and noted the state treasurer's LOCAL (Local Option Capital Asset Lending) program offers the best terms.     The City of Palouse swore in a new city council member Tuesday, June 14. Bill Slinkard, a retired WSU employee, was appointed to take the place of the late Bo Ossinger, who died March 20.     The Town of Rosalia next week expects to fill two town council vacancies. The town three weeks ago announced the vacancy of one council seat, which was vacated when Councilwoman Paige Collins moved out of town.     The Board of County Commissioners Monday, June 20, adopted its 2017 budget calendar, goals and priorities. These were sent to all county departments responsible for submission of budgets.
