    With crews performing final cleanup last week on the Sand Road safety improvement work, the last items to take care of were large rocks to be removed, soft spot repairs and dispersing unnecessary dirt piles. “The final touch-up,” said Public Works Director Mark Storey.   • Endicott council passes in-town chickens ordinance

    At its June 13 meeting, Endicott town council voted unanimously to allow chickens to be raised within the town limits.   • Now 72 percent gone: Added budget requests tap county's 2017 general contingency fund

    While half of the year is over, the county’s $100,000 contingency fund for the operating budget has been tapped for $72,827 after requests for additional expenditures were approved Monday by the Board of County commissioners. Eight requests totaled $88,827 for a tap on the fund. The requests for added funds were offset by a $16,000 gain on the revenue side.     Gazette Staff From late April through May, the combined efforts of the Quad Cities Drug Task Force, Whitman County Sheriff’s Office and local police departments resulted in 16 drug-related arrests in the county, many of them on charges of delivery of controlled substances.
