    Colfax Class of 1975 marked their 40th year reunion held last weekend with 24 members attending. The class had an ice-breaker at the Palouse Hyde Out Friday night. Saturday they took a tour of the high school followed by a noon gathering at Schmuck Park. An evening dinner was at the Colfax Golf Club.   • Fire ban set for county parks

    Whitman County Parks fire restrictions will be in effect as of Friday, July 3, at Kamiak Butte and Klemgard County Parks as well as the Bill Chipman Palouse Trail. Fire restrictions have been in effect at Wawawai County Park since June 10 in accordance with Whitman County guidelines. This restriction remains in effect. Smoking on trails will not be permitted. Cooking with charcoal briquettes or a gas grill is still an option. All park visitors need to be prepared and vigilant and alwasy keep a bucket of water and shovel nearby when cooking....

  • Palouse bans fires

    Palouse and Fire District 4 Tuesday announced a ban on outdoor burning in the City of Palouse and Fire District 4. Exceptions will be gas and charcoal barbecues and gas fire pits. Residents are also encouraged to forego the use of personal fireworks during the upcoming holiday weekend.     A new program series, “Making Connections for Mature Adults,” with one-on-one programming and informal get-togethers will be presented through the Whitman county library’s 14 branches, community locations and in-home visits.     Whitman County Library cardholders can participate in free online classes, take certification exams at a reduced cost and take home prizes. Through Sept. 17, library card users can be certified in any of the Office programs, Word Excel, PowerPoint, Access or Outlook, in versions 2010 and 2013.     Endicott Washington State Trap Shoot was this past weekend in Spokane. Congratulations go out to Connor Pelissier, Jessica Geissinger and Joe Vietze. Connor Pelissier won the 200 bird Junior Singles in a shoot off (which qualifies him to go to the Grand American in August), along with being Runner Up for Junior Handicap.     Dusty Twenty-two Stueckle cousins gathered at the home of Goldie Foss in Colfax Saturday for their annual potluck and reunion. The cousins came from Seattle, Puyallup, LaCrosse, the Tri-cities, Spokane and Colfax.   • Spokane cycle rider hurt

    A motorcycle rider was taken to Whitman Hospital after he collided with a deer Friday at the intersection on the Kackman and Lancaster roads north of Endicott. The rider was identified as James Hays, 59, Spokane. According to the sheriff's accident report, Hays had stopped the Kawasaki he was riding at the intersection and hit the deer as he began to resume speed.     Change of ownership for another Colfax bank was reported in the works June 25 when Inland Northwest Bank announced an agreement to acquire the Bank of Fairfield. The Colfax branch is one of seven Bank of Fairfield branches involved in the merger. Other branches area at Fairfield, Rosalia, Oakesdale, Spangle and Spokane.
