COLFAX/PALOUSE – A plan to resume senior meals in person July 6 in Colfax and Palouse has been held back, with the county needing to be in Phase IV before the change would be allowed. ALBION – Whitman County Library was recently awarded a $10,000 grant to renovate the Albion Branch Library. Provided by the METER Foundation of Pullman, the funds will allow for a new heating and air conditioning unit along with upgrades to the carpeting, paint and furniture. Jeff J. Lukens, 66, of Garfield, Wash., passed away June 27, 2020, at his Garfield home. Jeff was born November 20, 1953, in Van Nuys, Calif., to John & Dessie Mae (Freeze) Lukens. Our loving wife and mother, Marilyn Pierce Blevins, was welcomed home by her Savior June 29, 2020. Marilyn was born March 31, 1950, to Eugene and Dorothy Driftmeyer. While attending college at Eastern Washington University, she met Ralph Allen Blevins. They were married in Walla Walla, Wash., August 29, 1970. Appointee to fill Love's term will be up for re-election next year The Port of Whitman County issued a clarification June 29 on the process to fill the vacancy after the resignation of Commissioner John Love. A funeral for Kenneth Robert Hames, who died at age 91 in April, was held Friday, June 26, at the Rosalia Veterans Park, which he helped bring into existence. At Hames' request, the service took place at the park and afterward his ashes were taken to the IOOF cemetery at the edge of town in a procession led by the Rosalia Fire Department's 1937 Ford pumper truck.
