Oakesdale’s Old Mill Days is set for the third year of its revival. Brought back in 2013 by a group of organizers from the town’s McCoy Valley Museum, it has succeeded and grown. Two days of events have been packed into plans for the third annual Concrete River Festival in Colfax. Many of the festival favorites from the past and some new events are included in the line-up. One of the major changes this year will be inclusion of the Relay for Life. The 20th annual relay will start Saturday at 1 p.m. at the Schmuck Park track with 11 relay teams on the entry list. The relay will be conducted next to Schmuck Park where a full schedule of events will also be offered for festival participants through the day Saturday....
As area farmers are preparing to harvest their crops, the much needed "million dollar June rain" is still missing. The NRCS office in Colfax reported the precipitation for June to be zero. And it wasn't much better in May, when the precipitation was logged at 1.18 inches, compared to the May average of 1.8 inches. The crop year total from Oct. 1, 2014, rounds out at 15.18 inches, 2.69 inches below average for the nine-month crop span.
