    The Jennings Elementary office remodeling project, already underway, it is now an independent part of the broader security and capital improvements construction plan. Since those bids were rejected, the District took the Jennings office part of the project internal, with a goal of completion by Aug. 15. Colfax Superintendent Michael Morgan has overseen the work, doing the demolition himself, with help from Samantha Evans, a junior-to-be who is part of the Rural Resources program.     Adjustments and a new time frame are taking effect for the Colfax School District’s security and capital improvement project after initial bids came back over estimates last month. Colfax Superintendent Michael Morgan met with the project’s architect, Laurence Rose of Design West, in Pullman July 9 to finalize plans for what will be a re-bidding process.     On the Palouse photo exhibit set at library “Our Palouse: People, Places and Possibilities,” a photography exhibition, comes to the Colfax Library July 26-27. Hours of the exhibit will be Friday, noon to 6 p.m. and Saturday, 9 a.m. to 6 p.m. It will be among events scheduled for Colfax’s Concrete River Festival.   • Kids kick-it with karate at library

    Kids flocked to the Colfax Library to learn karate kicks last week. The free martial arts classes will continue this summer each Tuesday and Thursday, with children 12 and younger scheduled from 6 to 7 p.m. and teens and adults meeting from 7 to 8 p.m. Classes are being held in The Center by Jeanelle Miller, a graduate intern who has studied both Chinese and Japanese styles.   • Malden, Rosalia, Tekoa: State lists John Wayne Trail for $331,000 in funding

    The John Wayne Trail in Whitman County was among recipients of state Outdoor Recreation and Conservation grants totaling $86 million. The grant funding was announced last Wednesday by Governor Jay Inslee. The grants will fund projects in 34 of the state’s 39 counties. The John Wayne Trail in Whitman County is listed for $100,000.     County Parks Director Tim Myers reported to the county commissioners Monday afternoon that business at the county parks is booming. He said campground fees brought in $10,000 into the county coffers last year and this year it’s looking to be that much or more. “The last few weekends at the parks have been packed,” he said.   • Relay for Life raises more than $30,000

    Gross revenue for the 17th edition of Relay for Life at the Colfax High School track Friday and Saturday totaled approximately $32,000. Event chair Coyzet Lueck said the relay event will have some bills to pay and the final earnings report for the event is expected to be available later in the week. Relay for Life had 14 teams in the competition this year with 185 participants registered.
