    Zoe Moser, Colton High School class of 2016, has been awarded a $40,000 college scholarship to attend the University of Washington, beginning in the fall of 2016. Moser was one of hundreds to apply and was selected for this highly-competitive scholarship based on her outstanding academic record in high school.     Colfax Senior League softball team won the league championship tournament in Moscow at the end of June. They won five games in a row at the end-of-the season tournament and defeated Genesee in the championship game. The team finished the season with a 13-2 record.     Colfax swim team traveled to Dayton Tuesday for another Tri-County Swim League meet with Pullman's team also on the guest list. The same three teams met last Thursday at Pullman with Pullman rolling up 577.5 points for a big win at Reaney Pool. Colfax totaled 332 at Pullman, and Dayton totaled 269.5. In the league's other Thursday meet, at Pomeroy, the host club posted a big win over the visiting SELW team and GPOP, also known as Garfield/Palouse/Oaksdale/Plummer.     Pullman Posse battled for 12 innings Monday before downing Montesano 11-9 to notch a win in the state AA legion finals at Mount Vernon. The final game marked a positive note for the Posse team which sustained two losses at the start of the state run. "It was one of those games where we did all the little things right.     Anyone looking to have papers shredded for free can do so in Pullman Saturday, July 30. WSECU will host a free shred day that day from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. The bank branch at 405 SE Bishop Blvd. hosts a shred day every year on the last Saturday in July. Those looking to have documents shredded are allowed to bring up to three file-size boxes of documents. WSECU has paired with the Pullman Community Food Bank for the event.     Daniel Thomas, 32, Lamont, pleaded not guilty in superior court Friday morning to a charge of being in possession of stolen property. Thomas has been scheduled for an Oct. 17 trial. According to the report by Sheriff’s Sgt. Chris Chapman, Thomas was arrested July 18 at Lamont on a warrant which was issued when he allegedly failed to appear in court for a compliance review hearing. He was arrested at his father’s shop.     An Oct. 17 trial date was set Friday morning in superior court for Trevor Cheff, 49, Sequim, after he pleaded not guilty to charges of harassment, reckless endangerment and driving under the influence.     The City of Tekoa will seek a $50,000 streets levy on the November ballot. Following the failure of the same levy last year, the city council subsequently decided not to file for another try in the spring to avoid a potential conflict with the school's levy. The council approved this fall's streets vote at its regular meeting July 18. Funds would be collected at a rate of $1.64 per $1,000 in property valuation.     Colfax's Unified Executive Director Valoree Gregory spent part of last week and weekend in Port Townsend at a conference for the state Main Street Program.     Little Goose Lock and Dam has temporarily been closed for public crossing to allow repair of the upstream bascule bridge which spans the navigation lock, according to U.S. Army Corps of Engineers. Maintenance staff at the dam placed the bridge out of service because of mechanical problems with the motor that operates the bridge.
