    The saga of the long-term fate of Boy Scout Camp Easton on the east side of Coeur d’Alene marked another chapter two weeks ago when a district court judge in Coeur d’Alene promised to take another look at his earlier decision.     Colfax Chamber of Commerce secretary Kathy Clark sits behind her desk in the agency’s new office at 120 S. Main Street. The Chamber moved to Main Street early last month from its former office on Wall Street which was part of the PNW Farmers Cooperative building which is being remodeled as the grain company expands. Clark said the Main Street location has thus far led to a greater number of visits from passing motorists looking for information about the area.... Full story

    Tim Myers, director for Whitman County Parks Department, reports fire restrictions will be in effect as of Friday, Aug. 3, at Kamiak Butte and Klemgard County Parks and along the Bill Chipman Palouse Trail. Restrictions for Klemgard Park, Kamiak Butte and the Chipman Trail include no campfires and no smoking on trails. Fire restrictions have been in effect at Wawawai County Park since June 10 under Whitman County Fire District 14 guidelines. This restriction remains in effect.     Pomeroy strokers traveled to Colfax in a big way last Thursday and posted a strong team win in a four-way meet. The Pirates pool team rolled up 629 points to top the field.     Pomeroy’s swim team will return Saturday to take a shot at a sixth straight win of the Cluckey Cup, the signature trophy of the Jerry Cluckey Memorial swim meet. Last year the water Pirates rolled out 335 points to take the cup back home for the fifth straight year.     Colfax School District approved a bid from Busch Distributors Monday night to supply fuel for district buses and other vehicles for the next two school years. Busch submitted one of two bids for the diesel and gas contract. Their bid of 9.9 cents over rack, or cost, compared to Pacific Convenience and Fuels’ bid of five cents less than their per gallon price.     Almost 16 percent of votes have been cast in the primary election which ends next Tuesday, Aug. 7. Whitman County elections officials reported Tuesday afternoon that 3,027 ballots of 19,376 had been returned to the elections office in Colfax. The primary ballot includes 18 offices that voters across the county will decide who advances to the November general.
