Life skills I learned in the 1950's might be well applied in present day. Recently while decorating at the Bethel Cemetery in Steptoe it brought back memories of my youth. My Mom was the caretaker when I was five. No Kindergarten then, so I would go each day to help her on the hill. We had hoses, sprinklers, a power reel mower and hand held clippers. When our legs began to complain about the climb into the overhead bunk of our camper, my wife and I bought a year-round cabin on the Pend Oreille River. Volunteers are needed to help with the activities at the 31st annual National Lentil Festival at Pullman Aug. 16-17. On average, the festival needs between 350 to 400 volunteers to help with the festival events. Seventy-five colorful quilts were displayed in downtown Rosalia Saturday, July 27. Most were hung outside at various locations along Main Street, but those in specific categories were displayed at designated sites. Youth quilts adorned the library's porch.
