County voters pick Rossi for Senate Whitman County Auditor Eunice Coker and 9th District State Rep. Joe Schmick posted big wins in the only two contested local races on Tuesday’s primary ballot. A 100-strong crowd poured into the newly remodeled Whitman County library last Wednesday, Aug. 11 for the official ribbon-cutting ceremony. A handful of citizens lined up for the ceremony to cut the ribbon for the renovated library, now open after nine-months of remodeling. Despte a split vote, Whitman County commissioners held firm Monday on the 25 percent cap on farmground that can be enrolled in the Conservation Reserve Program, or CRP. “I’m not willing to take this cap off,” said Commissioner Greg Partch, who voted with Commissioner Pat O’Neill to deny an increase in the cap. “I don’t think there’s a problem.” Commissioner Michael Largent cast a dissenting vote.
