    Colfax Library plans Crazy 8s, a math discovery club for kids in grades three to five. It will begin Monday, Sept. 23, with sessions from 2:30 to 4 p.m. Registration is required by Sept. 14. Crazy 8s Club gathers on a weekly basis for eight weeks with activities like Bouncy Dice Explosion and toilet paper Olympics.     Whitman Hospital and Medical Center in Colfax was among hospitals listed in the new "50 Critical Access Hospitals to Know" in the United States which has been published by Becker's Hospital Review.     LaCrosse Community Outreach Center received a competitive grant July 2015 from the Inland Northwest Community Foundation in the amount of $1,900 as a part of its Rapid Response to Poverty Program. Through this program, the Foundation supports organizations in the Palouse region meeting basic human needs in their communities. As the operator of the community Food Bank, LCOC was awarded this grant to fund part of yearly operating costs for both the Food Bank and the Thrift Store.     The Port of Whitman County recently launched a re-designed website. Port Properties and Development Manager Debbie Snell reported to Port commissioners Aug. 20 that the new website is up and running. The website features a re-designed interface that the Port believes is more user friendly. Joe Poiré, executive director at the Port, said, "we're slowly tightening things up," but the website is functional.     Estimates released by the U.S. Bureau of Labor Statistics (BLS) Aug. 20 show the U.S. and statewide unemployment rates remained the same from last month. The 5.3 percent unemployment rate for both the nation and state is still down from this same time last year, when the nation held a 6.2 percent unemployment rate and the state stood at 6.1 percent.     The three Endicott church congregations came together Saturday to show their support for those affected by wildfires across the Northwest.     Two loads of relief contributions for the residents of the Kamiah area departed Colfax Friday. Tammy Lewis, who coordinated the local drive here, transported the goods to Pullman where they were loaded into a 40-foot trailer which Pullman Memorial Hospital later used to deliver the donations to the town on the Clearwater River.
