The new-look Colfax Bulldogs will face a tough season launch Friday in their home opener. The DeSales Irish, non-league guests from the SE, will roll into town after opting to make a season start last week and canning a big 39-7 win over LaSalle of Union Gap. Gazette Reporters Lisa Baser, the new FFA teacher in LaCrosse, came to the subject in an unlikely way at the beginning of high school. She was registering for classes at Sumner High, near Tacoma, when Animal Science proved to be the last elective on her list of options. “It was the only class that was open,” Baser said. “But it turned out I really enjoyed it. Administrative Director Gary Petrovich Tuesday gave commissioners three-inch thick binders of the county’s 2012 spending plan. Leaders in the county’s current expense operating fund departments predict revenues of $12,109,117, which is $1,549,495 shy of the $13,658,612 they expect to spend next year. A short-term solution for the St. John/Endicott school cooperative may turn out to be a case study for small school administration throughout the state. Residents pulled out garden hoses to counter the fire at the top end. The Colfax city truck and three rural district trucks from the Colfax station responded to the scene. Steptoe and Albion crews in the rural district arrived with tanker trucks. The fire was stopped short of the big blue reservoir and the radio communications tower which is located uphill from the reservoir. No structures were involved.
