    COLFAX - More than 60 students rallied in front of the Colfax High School on their first day back against state COVID vaccination and mask mandates. The Associated Student Body (ASB) organized the event on Aug. 30 to express the students' views.     POTLATCH, Idaho - The Whitman County Sheriff's Posse joined the Latah County Sheriff's Office in honoring the 13 fallen soldiers killed during the evacuation of Kabul, Afghanistan.     Gates opened for the Palouse Empire Fair on Thursday. The sheep barn (top) and mosaics made of grains (bottom) were ready and waiting for people to arrive. After skipping a year because of COVID-19 safety precautions, Whitman County can return to enjoy the fair, carnival, and rodeo. The fair runs Sept. 9-12.     ROSALIA – A gray 2019 Acura ILX was heading north when it crossed the centerline in front of a semi-truck on U.S Highway 195, about 13 miles north of Rosalia, on Sept. 10. The head-on collision caused the southbound 2018 International semi-truck and trailer to cross the road and roll onto its side on the highway shoulder, according to the Washington State Patrol.     PALOUSE – Two people were injured when a small plane crashed at a private airfield near Palouse on Sept. 15.
