HARVEST TRUCK FOUND A farm truck which was taken from the Jones Truck & Implement lot on the Walla Walla Highway in Colfax three weeks ago has been found in Lincoln County.     Garfield/Palouse netters defeated Rosalia in a non-league match Tuesday at Palouse with Payson Griner hitting 17 kills. Line score for the Vikings win was 26-29, 18-25, 25-19 and 26-24. Griner also posted five blocks, and Ainslee Marcus had 30 assists. Colton pegged a non-league win over Grangeville 25-23, 25-23, 15-25, 25-14 to bump its record to 3-0. Kendyl Druffel hit 12 kills for the Wildcats, and Jordan Moehrle hit 11 kills. Abby Kelly put up 28 assists for Colton.     Colfax junior Dane Hall picks up yards with Terin Judy of Asotin trying to make the stop. Asotin's crew of veteran gridders turned on the power in the second quarter Friday night at Oakesdale for a 46-16 win over Colfax in the second round of NE action. The Panthers scored 27 points in the quarter to post a 34-8 lead at the half.     Colfax runners competed in a league meet Tuesday at the Big Bend Golf course at Wilbur. Jack Ammon of Northwest Christian won the boys race with a time of 16:30 over the 5K course. Madison Ward of St. George's won the girls race with a clocking of 19:14. Times for the Bulldogs were Carson Cloaninger 18:36, Riley Griffiths 19:25.49, Chase Baerlocher 19:25.84, Josh Goebel 22:10, Austin Ring 22:44 and Doug Wilson 25:35.     Brady Chadwick passed for 344 yards on 11-for-14 for six touchdowns and ran for another 162 yards and two more scores in a rout of Tekoa/Rosalia Sept. 9 at home. Colton's offense delivered 586 total yards and six touchdowns in the first quarter to set the tone.     After a cancelled first-week game at Odessa due to lack of functioning field lights, the St. John/Endicott/ LaCrosse football team started the season with a 58-20 loss to Wellpinit. Playing at home, quarterback Reagan Harrison scrambled into the endzone on a 12-yard run for the team's first touchdown. In the third quarter, Levi Bailey scored on an 85-yard kickoff return before Harrison ran in the Eagles' final touchdown.     Colfax volleyball team advanced its mark to 2-0 Tuesday night with a three-game sweep over Northwest Christian. The Bulldogs fell behind in the opening game, and coach Sue Doering made some lineup changes to get the team in gear. "They just had to settle down a little bit. Once they got settled they began to pick up the points," Doering noted.   • State parks free day set for Sept. 24

    Washington State Parks and Recreation Commission will offer a free day Saturday, Sept. 24, in recognition of National Public Lands Day. Park visitors will not need a Discover Pass to visit state parks. State Parks free days are in keeping with legislation that created the Discover Pass, a $30 annual or $10 one-day permit required on lands managed by Washington State Parks and the Washington departments of Natural Resources (DNR) and Fish & Wildlife (WDFW).     Colfax Fire Capt. Tim Tingley was presented with a letter of commendation Sept. 6 by Chief Clark Capwell. The letter was presented for Tingley’s response to the grass and brush fire which ignited on the west hill Aug. 18. Tingley was cited for his quick response to the scene and for calling in other departments to counter the fire which was started by a transformer failure along the Old Almota Road.   • October ghost hunt schedule released

    Haunted Hospital at St. Ignatius will be back in October with a variety of options available this time around. A lease was signed last month to allow for the use of the building for haunted attractions to continue for at least another year. Colfax's First Thursday event Oct. 6 will have one-hour ghost tours every hour-and-a-half starting at 5 p.m. This will be the only day where the one-hour format will be available.     --photo Kathleen Parker A Goodwill truck was in LaCrosse Sept. 9-11 to benefit the LaCrosse Community Outreach and Food Bank. The truck was full after the three-day event. The outreach and food bank will receive $200 for the first 500 pounds of donations and 10 cents for every pound after that.     An eight-hour Smart Driver class, developed by the American Association of Retired Persons, will be Tuesday, Sept. 27, in the first floor auditorium of the Whitman County Public Service Building at 310 N. Main in Colfax from 8:30 a.m. to 5:30 p.m. with a break for lunch at mid-day. Pre-registration is strongly encouraged. Class fees are $15 for AARP members and $20 for non-members.     The Town of Endicott is in the early stages of looking into possibilities for road and well improvements. At the council meeting Aug. 9, Mayor David Bilow reported he met with county representatives regarding the process for seeking road improvements. “The council at the request of the town contacted the county to see how the county could help the town,” Mayor Bilow told the Gazette.   • St. John Park: Equipment arrives, installation begins Sept. 26

    Park play equipment arrived in St. John last week, and installation day has been scheduled for Sept. 26. Sisters and fifth generation St. John residents Valerie Brewer and Jessiann Loomis last year began raising funds to replace much of the park's old equipment after the town council decided to remove the equipment that was not up to code, which caused liabilities.     A crew from Motley & Motley of Pullman puts down the outer ring of asphalt at the new track Tuesday. The project is expected to be complete in mid-October.
