Oakesdale volleyball team advanced their record to 2-1 Tuesday with a three-game win over the LWK Tigercats. The Panthers prevailed 25-17, 25-19 and 25-9. A formal complaint has been filed against the Palouse Police Department. Palouse resident Jamie Gaber appeared at the city council meeting Sept. 8 and read a statement saying that she and her family have been contacted several times by police and feel they are being harassed. Their complaint also noted that officers’ demeanors were below expectations. The community will soon have the opportunity to see and learn about the work of the Port of Whitman County and other local ports. The Pullman Chamber of Commerce is bringing back the port tour that took place yearly in the past. “We have done it on a yearly basis, and we took a couple years off,” said Marie Dymkoski, executive director at the chamber. “People were asking for it again, and we felt like there was enough want for it.” The regional tour, scheduled for Friday Nov. 6, will start at the chamber in Pullman. City Administrator Mike Rizzitiello said the first year of the revised Colfax Farmers' Market, which closed down operations Sept. 4, was a good year of learning and experimentation, and he is optimistic about the future of it. The town of Palouse has submitted its Transportation Improvement Board application once more for their proposed West Whitman Street project. Filing the paperwork at the end of August, the work would extend previous work in 2008 on the East Whitman Street revitalization project. The 13th annual deer collision statistics were released Monday for 2015, showing that a driver in Washington state has slightly worse odds of hitting a deer than at this same time last year. According to the release, Washington drivers are nearly 10 percent more likely to collide with a deer than last year. The data was collected by State Farm on a nationwide level. According to this data, the odds that a driver in Washington will hit a deer are 1 out of 337, while the national odds are 1 out of 169. The data was collected between July 1, 2014... Full story
Firetronics, Inc., Cheney, has received a Colfax building permit to make improvements to the fire alarm system at Paul's Place on S. Mill in Colfax. The firm will install a gas valve for an automatic shutoff which will be tied to the alarm system at the facility. Also planned will be a changeover of several smoke detectors in the alarm system. Although gas prices have dropped, the gas tax has increased by seven cents per gallon. With a recent decline in prices at the pump, it may have been difficult to notice how the state's higher gas tax is affecting drivers, but a recent study released Tuesday may have made it easier.
