During the “Drive Hammered, Get Nailed” enforcement campaign Aug. 14 to Sept. 7 a total of 37 motorists in Whitman County were stopped and arrested for driving under the influence. Though the fate of the county-owned CETC building in Colfax has not been officially decided, County Commissioner Pat O’Neill said Monday it was a “foregone conclusion” that the building will be razed. “I don’t want to see one cent spent on snow removal on that building this year,” O’Neill told his fellow commissioners in a workshop session Monday. All extra curricular contracts in Colfax school district will receive a one percent pay cut in order to pay for and keep the Knowledge Bowl program. Palouse will again crank it up this weekend with the 27th annual car show, a parade, and even a launch of ping pong balls from the sky for Palouse Days. The celebration begins Friday night, 8 p.m., at the Palouse Tavern with live music offered by local band Clothless Sky, $5 cover charge. The car show begins at 9 a.m. Saturday and any car of any age can be entered, said city councilman Mike Milano. The show will be on the city park grounds; there is a $10 entry fee. 1’s of students absent The flu outbreak that has affected thousands of Washington State University students since fall semester began is now hitting Whitman County schools.
