For her 90th birthday, Eileen Semler Ankerson was guest of honor at a party for 85 family members and very close friends from as far away as Florida and Australia. Lacrosse LaCrosse seniors will have a hamburger feed Friday beginning at 6 p.m. before the football game in LaCrosse. The menu includes hamburgers, pasta salad and cookies. A small critter is causing big problems in the South Puget Sound. It’s called the Mazama pocket gopher. Some 100,000 pocket gophers inhabit prairie lands throughout northern California, Oregon and Washington. The clamoring to go to war in Syria has subsided. American leaders from both parties who wanted to punish Syria and its leader Bashar Assad for using chemical weapons have quieted down. That is because a plan now exists for controlling Assad’s chemical weapons without resorting to military strikes. St. John/Endicott girls scored a team win at the big Plantes Ferry memorial race Saturday along the Spokane River in Spokane Valley. In league action at LaCrosse Tuesday, St. John/Endicott took out the Tigercats in three games, 25-20, 25-9 and 25-112. Colfax volleyball players moved their win streak to 10-0 Tuesday night with a four-game win at Genesee. The host Bulldogs, who stood at 10-3 before the match, took the first game, but Colfax took a 27-25 win the the second game on the way to the match win. Colfax then settled down and took the last two games on solid wins, 25-18 and 25-14. Colfax football fortunes advanced to 1-1 Friday when the Bulldogs bagged a runaway win over the new Northwest Christian Crusaders team on the Schmuck Park turf.
