Colfax defeated NWC, their opponent in the state title match last year, in four games, and they stopped Kettle, the league newcomer, in three straight. Colfax finally received a $116,000 check through the state Department of Transportation for reimbursement of costs involved with the Fairview and S. Main improvement project. City Treasurer Mark Clinton said the payment, which derives from American Recovery & Reinvestment (stimulus) funds has been in the works for nine months since the south hill job was completed here late last fall. The second phase in Oakesdale’s business incubator project is underway with construction expected to be finished by the end of the year. Cost for the second phase is expected to be $36,800, according to city clerk Mary DeGon. A new piece of outdoor exercise equipment, called a ski walker, is expected to be installed soon at the Garfield City Park. Garfield Community Association (GCA) bought the walker for $819. It is the first in a series of outdoor equipment the group hopes to buy over the next few years. The pieces will be placed along the park’s walking path for public use. A new prompting addition to the computers at Whitman Hospital and Medical Center will instantly alert a physician at their desk about potential problems of patients in the hospital. For example, a doctor could be alerted when the potassium level declines on a patient being treated for pneumonia. Dusty Steve and Becky Camp hosted their annual Powered Parachute Rally/Fly-In this weekend. There were 32 machines this year. Some participants started showing up last Tuesday. Saturday night was a group potluck which also celebrated Becky’s 50th birthday. With the inclusion of some of Becky’s family, 65 to 70 people attended dinner. When Gail Bilow and her husband Dave moved to Endicott three years ago, she was worried she would have trouble fitting in or being accepted. But now she is busier, knows more people and has more friends than before the move. “I didn’t have any adjustment problems,” she said. A cost-saving measure when Whitman County drew plans for the Pullman-Moscow Corridor has created a neighborhood controversy on Sunshine Road. Monday, Whitman County commissioners will decide on that dispute over planned housing developments in the neighborhood. Colton town officials are waiting to hear back on their proposal for a $500,000 road in Colton. The state’s Transportation Improvement Board (TIB) will inform recipients of TIB grants by Nov. 19.
