There were 4,850 initial regular unemployment claims, down from the prior week, according to the Unemployment Security Department (ESD). ROSALIA — Whitman Heritage Digital Collections is offering to scan up to 15 old photographs to add it to the public collection. OLYMPIA — Washington’s ban on single-use plastic bags goes into effect on Oct. 1. “The law forbids food-service businesses, restaurants, retail, small and temporary vendors, and grocery stores from providing single-use plastic carryout bags to customers,” stated a Department of Ecology (DOE) spokesperson. OLYMPIA — Avista was approved for a rate increase but the amount was less than they wanted. The Washington Utilities and Transportation Commission (WUTC) approved an increase on Sept. 27 “that will result in no changes to customer bills,” stated a spokesperson. UNIONTOWN — They knocked on the Uniontown home front door looking for their dog, instead they found a pistol aimed at them. Two people were looking for their missing dog and stopped at a house in the 200 block of Owen Street on Sept. 24. SPOKANE – Colfax entered the Linda Sheridan Volleyball Classic as one of 42 teams playing and earned 13th place. The two-day tournament was Sept. 24-25 at Ferris High School. Colfax Public Works is in the planning phase to install 50 new water meters in the Hamilton Park area to test their capabilities.
