    The Rosalia Spartans took to Roos Field in Cheney last Saturday against Oakville and came back with a 74-0 win. In the fourth game of their eight-man independent schedule, the Spartans’ (3-1) Craig Nelson led the team with 13 carries for 170 yards rushing and five touchdowns (one a catch).     Coming off their first defeat of the year in a non-league contest against Colfax Sept. 27, the two-time defending state 1B champion Tekoa-Oakesdale team beat Touchet Tuesday night. On the road, the Nighthawks won in three games, 25-17, 25-15 and 25-15. Mattie Jo Johnson recorded 13 kills and four blocks while Alexa Lindgren had 23 assists and five aces.     Colfax Bulldogs exploded for 28 points in the first half at Springdale Friday night to pick up a 28-6 win over the Chargers and advance their league record to 2-0.     Their season record is all even at 2-2 for the St. John-Endicott Eagles after a 26-16 loss at Pomeroy last Friday. Playing in rain for most of three quarters, S.J.E. scored first with a 65-yard run from Wade West. He later scored on a 78-yard kickoff return.     Private property at the corner of the Farmington park is the subject of discussion for possible purchase by the city. The property, two lots with an 1889 house at Third Street and Washington, is owned by Jim Trimble, who rents out the house.     The Washington Department of Fish and Wildlife has lifted campfire restrictions on most department-managed lands in eastern Washington, where cooler temperatures and fall rains have reduced fire danger. “A cool, damp start to autumn resulted in the lifting of fire restrictions in eastern Washington, but we still urge campers and others heading outdoors to be extremely cautious,” said Clay Sprague, WDFW land manager.   • County crews repair road hit by severe storm

    County crews are now repairing parts of the road to Little Goose Dam in the southwestern part of the county. The storm that swept through the southwestern part of the county damaged the road so badly that crews have spent the last two to three weeks rebuilding the road, county Public Works Director Mark Storey told commissioners Monday. He said repair costs could easily go above $100,000. Storey also said the roadway lost a lot of rock surfacing which must be replaced.     While fishermen might have trouble finding coho salmon in the Snake River, they won’t have much trouble hooking a fall chinook. Fall chinook numbers are more than double over the past 10 years average, according to Russ Kiefer, Idaho Fish and Game mainstem migration specialist.     More than 25 bidders participated in a farmland auction sale Sept. 18 that netted a little more than $4 million. C.D. “Butch” Booker of Kincaid Real Estate in Colfax was auctioneer for the auction sale which was at the Palouse Empire Fair’s Community Building. Booker confirmed the land, which was offered in nine different parcels, was all sold to one bidder. He declined to name the bidder until the sale papers closed.     Farmington City Council is set to decide at its next meeting, Oct. 21, whether to buy a remote readout monitor for the city’s sewer lift station. Estimated to cost $4,300, the purchase cost for the town would be reduced to $3,300 with a grant from the city’s insurance company.     A notice of transfer of records of the Frank Lazcano proceedings from superior court to the District III State Appeals Court in Spokane was filed in court here. The cover letter noted nine volumes of the proceedings in the Frank Lazcano case have been sent to the appeals court. A Whitman County jury convicted Frank Lazcano March 1 of felony murder following his trial here.     The Port of Whitman County received a clean audit on Sept. 27. According to the state Auditor’s Office, port records were examined and determined to be in compliance. “This was a very clean audit with only minor recommendations,” Debbie Snell, port properties and development manager, said.     Whitman County commissioners Monday approved the Washington Counties Insurance Fund health insurance plan for county employees. The plan was recommended by Kelly Campbell, human resources director for the county. “It’s made by counties, for counties,” she said.
