    After a blast of points and a 20-20 tie in the first half Friday night, the Colfax Bulldogs tuned up their defense in the second half and posted two more scores for a 33-20 win over the Davenport Gorillas. The win left the Bulldogs at 3-0 for NE league standings with a non–leaguer against Orofino set this Friday night for homecoming.     Colfax volleyball team went back on the road again Tuesday night for a three-game league win at Ritzville over the Broncos. The Bulldogs dropped LRS 25-19 25-28 and 25-13 Tuedsday's trip to Ritzville concluded a seven-match string on the road for the Bulldogs who will be idle this weekend and host Springdale Tuesday. Taylor Larsen rapped another seven aces against the Broncos and booked 11 kills. Setter Kori Goodwin put up 23 assists.     Northwest Christian Crusaders took team wins Tuesday when NE teams made a Colfax stop in the pouring rain. The runners covered three miles with two loops around the perimeter of the Colfax Golf course. Coach Jamie Kinley credited the golf crew with helping launch the meet in the difficult conditions. The Bulldogs this year opted to move the race site from the Colfax Trail, a move which turned out fortunate given the conditions for race day.     The Port of Whitman County recently launched its newly redesigned web site at www.portwhitman.com. The web site has undergone a major graphic makeover with updated colors, fonts and a photo slide show on the home page. “The featured port and community videos load much faster and are great fun to watch,” said Debbie Snell, port properties and development manager.     Whitman County Commissioner Art Swannack Monday reported that the Martin Hall board is beginning to work on the 2014 budget. Swannack represents the county on the juvenile facility’s board. He said the Community Council and Correctional Services staff requested an increase of $49,000 on its base contract because of the increased number of juvenile offenders in the hall.     Work on the addition and remodeling of Tick Klock Drug store on Main Street in Colfax began last week. The building permit listed the cost of the project at $50,000. Thompson & Sons Construction of Chatteroy is the contractor for the remodeling in the space formerly occupied by Main Street Books.     The Vollmer Building in Uniontown continues on its way to reinvigoration. Bought at auction by the Uniontown Community Development Association in the summer of 2012, the 1889 building has been cleaned out. Stoves, sinks and a handicapped-accessible bathroom have been added. After a recurring leak over the winter, the roof was resurfaced this summer.
