Washington Department of Fish and Wildlife has lifted restrictions on most department-managed lands in eastern Washington after cooler temperatures have reduced fire danger. The Tekoa/Rosalia Timberwolves will face the longest road trip of the year for a county club when they travel to Darrington. They plan to depart early Friday morning for the trip across Stevens Pass then north to Darrington. Coach Scott Eaton noted the trip has been charted at 7.5 hours for a car, so the bus time, plus breaks, could figure to be about nine hours. High school runners from six teams raced Tuesday raced on the WSU cross country course, which will test the best runners in the PAC-12 in two weeks at the Colfax Golf Course. The high school runners completed two laps around the course, which was slightly modified from the big PAC-12 course set for the race Oct. 30 “It's a flat course, and it was fast,” Colfax coach Jamie Kinley reported. Colton's Carter Dahmen delivered another eight-touchdown performance last Friday in a 72-40 win over Dayton, the second time the two teams have played this season. The Wildcats (5-1, 4-0 league) led 58-6 at halftime. Dahmen threw for 474 yards on 24 of 36 pass attempts. Cameron Bean lead Colton receivers with 10 catches for 143 yards and also ran for 77 yards. The Palouse Falls Chapter of the Ice Age Floods Institute will have their first meeting next Thursday, Oct. 22, from 7 to 8 p.m. at The Gathering Place in LaCrosse. Chapter President Lloyd Stoess took the initiative to form the group recently. Union Pacific Railroad is seeking to add a communications tower at Hooper. The tower, which will be approximately 100 feet tall and located one mile southwest of the Highway 26 and Old 26 intersection, will be constructed for the purpose of railroad communications. The SmileMobile has been in Pullman at the Calvary Christian Church since Monday and will remain there through Friday to provide low-cost dental exams for children from birth through high school. Work crews last week began a paving project on Rosalia Road north and south of the town. Public Works Director Mark Storey said the project is on both sides of the city limits connecting back to Highway 195. All together, it encompasses approximately two-and-a-half to three miles of roadway. Crews from Shamrock Paving out of Airway Heights were at work most of last week to complete initial paving. St. Ignatius Hospital will be the site of ghost hunts Oct. 21-30 and ghost tours Oct. 29-30. Some special visitors came to town Monday. A crew from the Spokane Paranormal Investigation Group was at St. Ignatius Hospital to investigate the ghost scene there.
