    8 years ago, Oct. 17, 1884 Mr. S. P. Kimball has sold the remainder of his band of blooded sheep - 55 head - to Mr. E. N. Beach, and started for his home in Illinois last Wednesday. Mr. Beach will keep the sheep on exhibition and for sale at his barn on Mill Street.     An AARP driver safety course will be offered in Colfax Oct. 26-27 from 1 to 5 p.m. each day in the auditorium of the Public Service Building. The eight-hour course is a refresher for drivers 50 and older which presents ways to compensate for age-related changes that can affect driving.     Alvina E. Howe A memorial service for Alvina Howe, 84, former resident of Tekoa and Plummer, was Monday, Oct. 12, at the Zion Lutheran Church in Fairfield with the Rev. Paul Anderson officiating. She died Oct. 5, 2009, at Spokane. Born Aug. 13, 1925, near Oakesdale to Albert and Sophie Clausen Hansen, she was the youngest of nine children. She attended school at Tekoa and graduated from Tekoa High School in 1943. Alvina married Leonard Buth June 8, 1947, at Fairfield, and they made their home at Tekoa.     Beginning Oct. 23, Play & Learn at Whitman County Library will be each Friday from 10 to 11:30 am for anyone wanting to attend a community play group. The play group follows an open format so participants may come for the entire 90 minutes or any time in between.
